Grill/Casual

‘A combination of South African spices alongside classic South American Dish brought together & served with an urban twist’

Based in the heart of East London, Barking Road, Chico’s has grown its reputation bringing us incredibly delicious, affordable food.

Fully HMC halal, been in business less than a year, Chico’s provides a fantastic innovative range of food fit for anyone’s palate.

I’ve been visiting this place for a couple months very much frequently after going for a second time and it’s clear that they’ve grown over a short period of time.

Onto the food, now I gotta admit, I’ve probably tried nearly everything on their menu (except desserts) these past couple of months and honestly, nothing did not disappoint me. Yes, I’d say to some dishes, a little tweaking here and there but that’s it, nothing major.

Halloumi Fries

£4.00

8/10

Hi
The halloumi fries were decent, like any other. The chilli jam however, was delicious the flavours complemented the nuttiness of the cheese well giving it a sweet yet slight kick.

Lamb Chops

£6.50

9/10

The marinade on these were quiet interesting, with a sweet chilli note. They weren’t too dry or chewy and cooked to perfection. Lamb chops were also used as stated hence why the price, many places do call them lamb chops but infact use mutton chops which are comparably bigger in size.

Chico’s Loaded Fries

£3.50

10/10

The best loaded fries I’ve had. No cap. The fries are still crisp, not soggy like some places when loaded. The chicken is amazingly tender drizzled with their house sauce with is incredible with a little tang but a chilli hit. One heck of a party in my mouth! I could not recommend these enough. A generous portion for the price too.

Cheesy Cheeto Fries

£3.50

5/10

Personally, loved the idea of these, with Cheetos being a whole craze. Essentially fries topped with cheese sauce and flaming hot cheetos. The reason why I score this a 5 was because the cheese sauce definitely had something off about it. It could have been a one off but definitely can be rectified. Other than that they were great.

Grilled Piri Piri Chicken

£5.50

8/10

Another version of the world renounced piri piri chicken. Loved the flavour of this, with a slightly different twist. The chicken was tender and juicy (even the breast piece) and had a nice colour to it from the char.

Lemon & Chilli 5 Wings Meal

£5.50

7/10

I’ve heard amazing reviews about this places Lemon and chilli chicken and I can defo see why. It had a fantastic flavour profile with both the lemon and chilli coming through - definitely something unique.

Big Daddy Burger

£4.00

6/10

A replica of Mc Donald’s Big Mac the big daddy consists of 2 beef patties. Although expecting a bigger burger, taste wise it was okay, an ordinary Mc D’s burger for those of you who’ve had it in other countries. The patty’s could have been slightly bigger and more juicy as it was a little dry. However considering it as a replica it’s a pretty good attempt.

Grilled Chicken Burger

£4.50

8/10

A pretty decent chicken burger for the price, in-fact I’d expect it to be a little more expensive if it were another restaurant. The chicken again was cooked perfectly and had a great taste with a good toasted brioche bun.

Chick’n’Tikka Thigh Burger

£5.00

9/10

The best chicken burger out of the two, as a whole it is pretty much faultless. A super juicy, super tender burger as expected from a thigh. The aromatics and flavours of the chicken itself is incredible, along side the perfect ratio of salad.

Chef’s Special

£8.50

8/10

A very pleasant and unique dish I must say, very similar to the chicken parmo but different in its own way. The chicken was juicy and succulent, the flavours were well complimented and paired nicely with two sides of mixed veg and mash potato. The mushroom sauce was great however, it could have done with slightly less.

Chick’n’Tikka Flatbread

£6.50

9/10

Another innovative dish, using chicken thigh, giving the juicy and flavourful filling. The flatbread itself is so light and airy which is amazing! Slightly reminded me about the bread German Doner Kebab uses but thicker. Again the right balance of flavours and salad with a cool addition of Tatziki sauce. The only thing i would say is that toasting the bread a little which may elevate the dish as a whole adding a satisfying crunch and texture to it.

Buritto de Chico’s

£6.00

7/10

I loved the concept of having burrito on the menu, and certainly was excited to try it. It pleasantly reminded me of the KFC burrito which has been taken off the menu for a while. The chicken wasn’t overcooked and rice was tender. The only thing I would say is that it lacked sauce/salsa which definitely more of would have made the burrito more enjoyable.
