Saffron Street. ‘An enchanting way of remembering and acknowledging culinary delights for the generation from whom food was one of the main ways they could express themselves’.
A restaurant which showcases the art and culture of Indians vast street food. Based in Ilford, Gants Hill, descendent of Saffron kitchen, Saffron Street has accumulated its presence in the industry through ‘pristine quality’, exquisite flavours, and unique atmosphere.
Starting off, the decor in this place is amazing, It can be seen through ever little detail that it’s been thought out to give you the best authentic experience true to india. The staff were very attentive & accommodating checking to see everything was okay with the food etc. Much like street food, the purpose is similar to fast food and this restaurant surely did not break that expectation, it was quiet surprising how food started to be served around 10-15mins after ordering. Okay I’ve spoken too much, let’s get onto what your really here for, the food!
‘Thele Mein Se’ we got the Masala Chips and Samosa Chaat.
The masala chips, I have to say were one of the best with the right balance of flavours of chilli to sweet and tangy. Something that Saffron Kitchen is known for are these, and Saffron Street defo didn’t fail to deliver.
The Samosa Chaat was also delicious, nothing less you’d expect - again perfect balance in flavours.
‘Kai Gulli Se’ we had the Chicken Jalfrezi Naanza. And let me tell you one thing. Banging. A authentic Indian pizza, wow they really nailed this one if I do say so myself. The flavours were incredible, the chicken was moist and succulent and the cheese was not overwhelming.
‘Sigdi Se’ was had to have some Lamb Chops, Tandoori Chicken & Sholay Wings the Classics. And it sure didn’t disappoint.
The lamb chops were tender, well marinated and served with a drizzle of a delicious sauce which tasted similar to Braai Sauce however was better.
The Tandoori Chicken was another level, hints of chilli and lemon were defo hitting their tastebuds.
The Sholay wings were also great, a good flavour on them.
Last but not least we had the Lucknowi Darbaari Thaali a pretty unique platter to Saffron Street. The Butter chicken was the best on the Thaal with the succulent chicken.
Overall, Saffron Street is definitely a must visit. The atmosphere is amazing with the decor and unique presentation of food.
